In more rural or wooded areas, internet can be less consistent. Some homes rely on DSL, fixed wireless, or satellite services, which may be slower depending on the property.

If you are relocating, it is important to check internet options for a specific home before making a decision. This is something I help my clients look at during the buying process.

Cell Service and Connectivity

Cell service follows a similar pattern.

In town, coverage is generally strong. As you move farther out, especially toward the coast or deeper into rural areas, service becomes more limited.

Some homeowners choose to install a generator if they work from home full time.

This is not a daily issue, but it is something to plan for.

Getting Around the Peninsula

The Olympic Peninsula is more spread out than many people expect.

There is no direct road through Olympic National Park, so travel follows the coastline. The drive between Sequim and Port Angeles is about 25 to 30 minutes.

For remote workers, this does not impact daily work much, but it can influence where you decide to live.

Starlink and Rural Internet Options

For buyers looking at more private or rural properties, Starlink has become a popular option.

It offers faster speeds than most rural internet services and works well for video calls and daily work.

However, it does require a clear view of the sky, so heavily wooded properties can experience brief interruptions. There is also an upfront equipment cost and a monthly fee.

For many people, this makes it possible to live outside of town while still working remotely.

Is Remote Work on the Olympic Peninsula a Good Fit??

For many people, yes.

Living in Sequim or Port Angeles usually provides the best balance of reliable internet and access to services. Rural areas offer more space and privacy, but require more planning for internet and utilities.

Having gone through this myself and helped many families do the same, I always recommend thinking about your daily routine first. Your work setup and internet needs should guide where you choose to live.
